SCMC - "Austin Drive '04"
Austin, Texas - Mar 27/28, 2004
See movie clip LINK, below ... it's really cool!
There were 5 Cobras that came from San Antonio. We met on I-35N, at a rest stop, drove to IHOP in New Braunfels for breakfast, and then jumped back on I-35N for the trip to Austin. While at the rest stop, a trucker came over to BS, and it so happened that he owned a '97 Supercharged Cobra, back in Minnesota. What a coincidence! He seemed like a pretty nice guy, but not necessarily an Internet (Cobra Forums) type. In our group were: "blacksnake" (John) '03 Cobra "nastystrike" (Richard) '03 Cobra "raven69david" (David) '95 Cobra "cain" (Richard) '95 Cobra Myself - "Dano" (Dan) '95 Cobra
All in all, we had a great time ... slowly weaving thru the traffic (with some sanity), and making it to the South of Austin, having seen no trouble along the way (that's a good trip, when you don't see anything ...). I had the honor of leading the group, and "nastystrike" told me in an E-mail that I did a good job - he only had to get into the tripple digits one time to keep up! Us guys in the '95's were just lucky that "nastystrike" and "blacksnake" didn't blow us off the highway ... LOL During the first leg of the drive, up into the Hill Country, we drove thru about 10,000 miles of hair-pin curves. I really can't tell you the feeling of hearing those high performance Cobras come out of the 15 mph turns, and accelerate to around 60 or so in an instant! It was like watching a roadrace, because Linda and I were the third Cobra from the end. Due to the driving skills, and experience, of the Cobras in the front of the pack, I had to really push the envelope to keep up. I did manage to remove the wrinkles from my leather seat. When I got back to the house, I found them in the crack of my butt (sorry ladies & children). Hitting a hair pin turn, looking for atleast 2nd gear, and decelerating hard, your ole' butt sucks a lot of leather! From the time we left San Antonio, with all that hard hill country and hair pin curve driving, and coming back to San Antonio through Johnson City, I logged 232 miles on my '95 Cobra - and when I filled up with 11 gallons (Good ole' Shamrock - Super) of gas, I'm proud to say that I racked up 21 mpg! I just love that engine ... The engine temp never got over 210! I want to thank the group of Cobra owners that I was with, and the SCMC for a real nice time - I'm ready to go again - anytime (pracically, got to work sometime ...).

The Local Police paid us a visit - I thought all of those without a front plate were going to get a ticket - he looked at almost every Cobra there - it was just a friendly visit! He was kind enough to block traffic when we pulled back onto the highway! :-)
