Posting Photos To The Internet (Forums, etc.)
I know this is boring, but read it - it'll only take a couple of minutes.
BASICS
1. In order to post photos on the Internet, they first have to be "hosted" somewhere - in other words, the photo files have to be located on someone's "Server."
2. If you don't have the capability of storing the photo files with your server, they can be with someone else's server.
3. You need the complete Internet Address (URL) of the "host," plus the "file name." Anyone that has a WebSite (page) can host the photos, as long as their allocated web space is not exceeded. My server allows me a lot of web space at no charge, and if I exceed that, I have to pay for it. The manner in which the "used space" is calculated allows a WebSite owner to put many photos and text on their WebSite.
THE PHOTOS
1. To conserve space (file size), the photos should be cropped to eliminate any area of the photo that's not needed. This can be done on a variety of programs. The photo then has to be resized. Say the original file size is anywhere from 150 + KB, up to a size in the MBs, the photo will take longer to load when someone is viewing the photo, and the photo will also be so large that it won't fit on the screen all at one time - a viewer would have to use the scroll bars to view the entire photo! Most of the photos on my WebSite are around 30 - 70 kb, and load fairly fast.
2. Once the photo's cropped and resized, SaveAs under a modified file name (to preserve the original photo). For example, if the file name of the original photo is: cobra.jpg, the modified file name could be: cobra1.jpg. By changing one character in the file name, you have created a completely new file, plus you still have the original photo to work with in the future! Both the original and the new file will be located in the same Folder in Windows, for easy location.
THE INTERNET ADDRESS (URL)
My Internet Address is: http://www.walters-online.com That address takes you to the Main page of my WebSite. There is a menu there, with LINKs to individual Web Pages.
The Internet Address for my Mustang Page is: http://www.walters-online.com/must2.htm That address takes you directly to my Mustang Page.
Okay, knowing that, you have to enter the Internet Address of the server (or WebSite) plus the file name of the photo, in the Forum "NewThread" page, or "Reply" window.
The address has to be on a line all by itself - no other text in front of or behind it, or it won't work! One thing though, you have to preface the address with When you view it in the post, the may appear on different lines of your post, no matter what you do - that's okay - The program does that automatically.
This is the text I have to enter for posting my photos at SCOA and SVT Performance Forums:
<... the letters are blue, because it forms a LINK ...>
You can see the address and the filename
Okay ... if you don't have a server, I can host a couple of photos for you, and then provide you with the address to enter when you make your posts.
|
| E-mail me the photo(s) as an attachment (jpg format, preferred).
|
| I'll crop the photo, to display what is important in the photo (if you have preferences in this matter, let me know, so I don't cut something out that you want to be shown).
|
I'll resize the photo, so that all of it will display at one time, on the web.
|
Guarantee: I can guarantee that I can't guarantee your photo will be permanently located on my server. As long as it doesn't cost me anything, it will remain there for you to use, with my compliments.

Questions ? E-mail me ... I'll be more than glad to help!
Hope this was some help to you ... dan walters
